The MERENGUE is the national dance of the Dominican Republic and represents a synthesis of the 3 elements that have shaped the culture of the country. The "typical" merengue band is formed by a player güira (instrument native Dominicans), one of tambora (African instrument) and an accordion (the European).
REGGAETON mix with Jamaican music influences of reggae and dancehall with Latin American rhythms such as the bomb and plena, and has typical sound of hip hop music. The music is also combined with rapping in Spanish. Reggaeton has the merit of giving young Hispanics, from Puerto Rico and Panama, a musical genre to be considered just in all respects.
