The term usually refers to the symphonic classical music performed by a large orchestra. The adjective "symphonic" is derived from the symphony (from greek σýν + φωνή, playing together), which now identifies a specific musical form, often identified in symphonic music; but symphonic music in its broadest sense includes not only the symphonies, but also the execution of different musical forms like the suite and the symphonic poem.
