Soul, which literally means "soul" in English, is a term primarily used to refer to R & B music developed from the sixties. As such, soul music is a subgenre of R & B. Otis Redding, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder are some of the names most representative of soul music. The "soul music" was born from the merger of the sounds of the blues and gospel with the ways of the pop song
